Ever since my first trip to Portugal, I have been captivated by azulejos. Their intricate patterns, intense shades of blue, and the unique connection between architecture, craftsmanship, and art still fascinate me to this day. Found on facades, in courtyards, and within palaces, they define the country’s landscape and tell the story of a centuries-old design culture.
My connection to Portugal grew even stronger when I met my Portuguese husband. His culture became a part of my life, and with it, my passion for Portuguese tile art. Azullado was born out of this passion.
This is not about removing historical tiles from their original context. They are part of Portugal’s cultural heritage and, for Azullado, are primarily a source of inspiration. Their colors, ornaments, and traditional craftsmanship serve as the starting point for new designs, contemporary interpretations, and unique art objects.
In this way, wall murals and design products are created that capture the character of azulejos and translate them into a modern form. Designed to a high standard, carefully crafted, and with an eye for the details that make Portuguese tile art so special.
With Azullado, I want to share my enthusiasm for azulejos—respectful of their origins and open to new creative ideas.
